Good
friends, beautiful music, inspirational talks,
great food, smiles everywhere. These and other
words describe the Central Florida Chapter
Alumni
Day 2003 held on Sabbath, August 30, at the Miriam
Kittrell Gymnatorium at Forest
Lake Education Center, FLEC. More
than 350 NCU alumni and friends from the Bahamas,
Atlanta, Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Maryland,
Texas, South and Central
Florida attended.
Over and over you could hear "Is that
you?" or "Hey, girl!" or "Whap'n
guy? I haven't seen you for ages!" or
"it's so good to see you!".
Friends were seeing friends
again.
It was a day filled with energy, inspiration,
nostalgia and reflection. The value of
Christian education was highlighted as we
reflected on the impact that Northern
Caribbean University had made on
our lives.
The theme for the day was "Keep the Faith".
All during the day, the theme was emphasized,
beginning with Sabbath
School, led by Arlene Thompson.
Pastor George Brown, former President of the
Inter-American
Division of Seventh-day Adventists, led
our lesson study discussion.
Later, our
Divine
Service guest speaker, Dr.
Newton Hoilette, reminded us to that
"...the work of education and the work of
redemption are one" and challenged us to
not allow our SDA schools to lose their unique
mission -- to prepare men and women for Christian
service in this world and a place in God's
kingdom.
We enjoyed
beautiful music all day. Sam and E.J.
Johnson and Jennifer McKnight inspired us during
Sabbath School. During Divine Service,
we enjoyed the talents of Barrington Brennen,
Lynn Antonio-Smith, Margaret March-Phillips,
Ruth Dwyer, Oz Rugless and the Alumni Voices,
organized by Dr. Jean Marshalleck
and Mrs. Zen Davis and led by
guest conductor Mr. Robert Miller.
Alumni
Day 2003 Musicians

A delicious
lunch was served to more than 350
persons. Mrs. Marion Davis,
Vice-President for Social and Cultural
affairs, along with her team, worked very hard
to make everyone comfortable. A booth
featuring pictures and promotional information
for NCU and the Central Florida Chapter was on
display all day.
Later that
evening, vocalists Barrington Brennen, Lynn
Antonio-Smith, Margaret March-Phillips, Ruth
Dwyer, Oz Rugless, saxophonists Sam and E.J
Johnson, and pianist Michael Andrews gave a sacred
concert.
 During
the intermission, tribute
was paid to Orley Burey, J.D. for his academic
achievement and to Erwin and Marion Davis for
their service to the Central
Florida Chapter.
Immediately
following the concert, there was a short
Vesper service to close the Sabbath.
Dr. Lew Mullings led Song Service. Judge Andrew
McDonald shared some Vesper thoughts.
After sundown,
we had an old-fashioned Grand
March led by Everard Daley and
Dahlia Pottinger, President of the Atlanta
Chapter.
We had a great
day together, renewing old friendships and
sharing time together.
Come join us September 4, 2004 for Alumni Day 2004,
God willing...

..the
work of education and the work of
redemption are one...The
great principles of education are
unchanged. "They stand fast for
ever and ever" (Psalm III:8); for
they are the principles of the
character of God

not throw away your confidence; it will be
richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that
when you have done the will of God, you will
