Pastor
Don Edwards
W.
Don Edwards was born in Nassau, Bahamas to
Pastor & Mrs. C.F. Edwards. He is the
second of five children, having three brothers
and a sister. He attended Kingsway
High School in Kingston, Jamaica for his
Elementary and Secondary education. He then
attended West Indies College ( Northern
Caribbean University) where he earned a
B.A. in Religion. Following that, he
served as an Intern in the East Jamaica
Conference, pastoring 16 churches in the St.
Mary district for several years.
He felt the
call to further his education and after the
death of his father in 1971, he migrated to
the United States where he attended Andrews
University. While there, he earned an M.A.
in Church History and a 5th-year
Diploma in Educational Psychology.
He returned to
his Alma Mater to serve as Dean of Men and
Theology teacher. While at West Indies
College, he married the former Judith Brennan,
and was ordained to the gospel Ministry. In
1981 he returned to the United States and was
called to pastor the Tabernacle Church in
Miami Florida. By the grace of God, he was
instrumental in building that church before
being transferred to the Homestead/Key West
district. There, under his leadership, the Key
West Church was built. His next assignment was
to pastor the Delray/Belle Glade district.
There he purchased land and organized a
school.
He returned to
Andrews University in 1993 and earned an M.A.
in Counseling Psychology. He pastored the New
Life Church on the University campus for
several years before accepting a call to
Montreal, Quebec in Canada. There, he pastored
the Westmount Church in that city. Following
his service there, Pastor Don returned to the
United States to complete his Doctoral studies
in Psychology.
He
was called to the Arizona
Conference in 1999 where he presently
serves as Coordinator of African American
Ministries, and pastors the largest African
American church in the state, Beacon
Light. He also serves as a member of the
school board of Thunderbird
Adventist Academy, the Conference
Executive Committee, and other committees and
boards.
His goal is to
be in the kingdom of our Lord when He comes,
and to this end he has dedicated his life to
the service of the Master. He has three sons,
Donnie, Jonathan, and Adam. His prayer is that
we will all be ready for that great and
glorious day when Jesus will return to take us
from this world to live with him for ever.
