At
the beginning of the Divine
Service Chapter President, Tony
Rugless, welcomed members and guests. He
recognized past and present Chapter officers
and thanked them for their contributions to
the chapter's success. He also thanked
the many persons who made Alumni Day 2002
possible. Special thanks was given to
the North Orlando SDA Church for its many
years of support to the chapter. He
shared information about the Central Florida
Chapter, introduced the new
Regional Coordinators and outlined the schedule for
day. Later he introduced the speaker, Pastor Don
Edwards.
Grace
McCalla, Vice-President of the Atlanta
Chapter and Harry
Clayton, President of the South Florida
Chapter, shared greetings from their respective
regions. Cynthia Green read our
Scripture and Pastor Arlie Greene led
us in Prayer. Everard
Daley, Vice President for Finance &
Treasury, encouraged us to give liberally
towards support of NCU and the Central Florida
Chapter. Joy Parchment taught the young
ones moral lessons through her story.
Pastor
Don Edwards, a son of NCU, was the day's
speaker. He currently serves in the
Arizona Conference of SDA as Pastor of the
Beacon Light Church and as Coordinator of
African American Ministries. In his
sermon titled The Forgotten Sin, he
reminded us that anything that comes between
us and God is an idol. If we are truly
homesick for Heaven, then we should get
excited, put distractions aside and focus on
our relationship with Jesus.
The
music
was heavenly. Sam and E.J. Johnson
played a saxophone duet. The Alumni Voices,
led by guest conductor Barry Edwards, sang I
Am and The Heavenly City. The
Heralds sang We Are Our Heavenly
Father's Children and in keeping with the
day's theme, Homesick for Heaven".
Pastor
Harold Cameron, Chapter Chaplain, closed the
service with prayer. |
